Initial Thoughts

Ever have "one of those days..."? Today was such a day, and rather than go into a blithering diatribe about my personal life, I'll try and focus on some other things.  I live near a retirement community, which is great in the summer, as there is no traffic.  In the winter, not so much.  Today I realized why, specifically, I hate the fact that my bank is literally a block away from one of the aforementioned retirement enclaves.  I went to the bank to get some cash to get a haircut, and spent no less than 10 minutes behind a guy who somehow thought it was an absolutely fantastic idea to deposit 10 checks in the ATM.  This wouldn't have been an issue, had he actually been savvy enough to let go of the fucking check when the ATM tried to suck it in.  I subsequently ended up boxed in with uber-check-deposit man in front of me, and scowling blue haired lady in the pink (yes, Mary Kay pink) cadillac behind me.  After retrieving my cash, I went to the barber, and was kindly informed by the ever-so happy barber-ette, that I might in fact be going bald.  At this point, I'm cool with that... I'll buy a headblade, and look like Yul Brenner if it actually comes down to it.  All I'm saying, is her delivery could have been a little better.

Anyway... to this cigar... I received a box of these from the fine folks at H.J. Bailey, company.  I'm not giving the link, because they're a distributor, so it does ya absolutely no good to go there :).  I will however, provide some links for where you can buy this cigar.  Anyway... This cigar looks gorgeous... Nice choclatey color, slightly veiny, smells a little earthy.

The Smoke

I use my notch cutter, toast the foot, and just like that, any thoughts of being irritated with getting old, etc. are gone.  The cigar is quite tasty from the get-go, nice flavor kind of earthy with a little pepperiness to it, and some other flavor nuances that I'm at a loss to describe... a little leathery and some other flavors thrown in for good measure.  As I think about this day, it definitely could have been a lot worse... I could have been stuck going to Peter Piper Pizza for my daughter's friend's birthday party, and been awash in a sea of plastic, wanna-be-barbie twenty or thirty something year-old housewifes, bad pizza, and a veritable cacaphony of high pitched squeals and whining little hooligans.  Yes, being outside and having a cigar is decidedly better than that!

At the 1/3rd point, the flavor intensifies a little, and I'm getting a slightly nutty "nose" with this stick.  Burn and draw are perfect, and so far, this is turning out to be a really good cigar!

2/3rds of the way down, the peppery flavor intensifies a little, burn and draw are perfect; I have to say... this is just what I needed.  Uhoh... the "wicked witch" theme is playing on my cell-phone... ex-wife is calling.  Love those phone calls..  Hey... no drama... this day just keeps getting better!

And I'm done.  This was a very enjoyable smoke, with plenty of flavor, excellent construction, draw and burn.
