Dan drowns his Valentine's day disappoiintment in Jack Daniels and a cheap cigar.
![]() Jose Marti Initial Thoughts What the fuck is with this stupid-assed holiday anyway. Seriously... It's St. Valentine's day, not the commercialized expectation filled debaucle that it now. For those of us who either can't afford, or don't give a shit enough about this stupid holiday to "Go to Jared's," this Jack and cigar are for you. Of course, for those of us who have nagging significant others who whine about the cost of cigars... well, this review is for you (or me) as well. First up, is the Jose Marti Magnum Toro. I picked this up from JR Cigars after checking a couple of other sites. Apparently, some sites are just too snooty to carry something for the average Joe (or Dan). So... a non-sponsored shout out to JR for having what appears to be a fairly complete selection of this brand. If this smoke sucks rope, well, I'll rescind the shout out in its entirety. I'll also note, for the record that Ash had reviewed a different size of this same brand. In looking at this cigar, it appears to be well constructed, Sniff test smells almost hay like. The Smoke Alright, I've clipped the head with my notch cutter, and am toasting the head. First puff gives me a toasty, peppery flavor. Not a lot of complexity yet, but then again... this IS a budget cigar. Jack and coke compliment the stick nicely, although I'm thinkin' Jack straight up would be better. Lovely... just dropped my drink... I think I'll just go with Jack at this point... the day can't possibly get mcuh worse. I think to make the whole experience, I'm gonna crank up the local country music station, KMLE and truly wallow in self pity and gloom. Alright, I now have a decent double (ok, triple) shot of Jack in my official "Gentleman Jack" glass (notably purchased by me, for me). Alright... flavor on this smoke is pretty monochromatic. A little peppery, with somewhat nutty undertones. At the 1/3rd point, the flavor is slightly stronger, decidedly medium bodied, and still pretty monochromatic. So... back to my mindless drivel... I wonder if this cigar is in fact the way I'm supposed to be at 43... monochromatic and boring; perhaps translate that as possessing no sex drive or desire to live/experience life. As I think about it, ummm.. no... life is meant to be breathed in, drank in with reckless abandon. Perhaps the reality here, is that when one's life becomes like a monochromatic cigar, one should consider changing things so as to experience more flavor. At the 2/3rd point still no significant change. Don't get me wrodispairng, this is an ok cigar, just not a great deal of oomph to it. Kind of like the proverbial sexless marriage -- decent enough, but about as exciting as watching paint dry. Ok, I guess once a month isn't sexless, but hell, middle age doesn't equivocate to Mr. Wiggly not still havin' some get up and go. I dunno... maybe my whole belief for what marriage/relationships or general understanding of marriage is just skewed. This mistaken belief that passion should be a daily occurance, rather than a once in a while, holiday-centric thing just has no basis in reality. Ok, for some weird reason, as I'm finishing up this cigar it has literally no flavor. Ok, maybe not zero, but the pepperyness is gone.... its just kind of blah.
