Dan reviews an Arturo Fente cigar, provided to him by the fine folks at www.cigarsdirect.com . Wait... before I go any further, let me say for the record, that I've used cigarsdirect in the past, and I have been exceptionally pleased with their service. In my particular case, I sent 3 Arturo Fuente Opus X cigars to the QA team that I'd been working with. They commented on how fresh the cigars were, and the fact that they arrived in immediately smokable condition was nothing less than "outstanding."
A.F. Don Carlos Presidente Initial Thoughts First off, let me say that I've been wanting to review this cigar for pretty darn near 2 months now. I'm sure the folks at cigarsdirect.com have been wondering if Ash and I took their stogies and ran, died from too much fantasy debauchery and actual cigar smoking or perhaps a case of the bubonic plague. I'm here to say that no, none of those is the case... I simply have been swamped (and I mean SWAMPED) with work. How swamped?? Well, how 'bout working half a man year (yep, 1000 hours) in just under 2 1/2 months. Anyway... enough about me and my apparent stupidity for desiring to turn out a quality product in a compressed time frame... lets focus on this cigar :). What can I say? This thing is gorgeous. No, I'm not going to compare it to its more expensive Opus X brothers; I'll just take it at face value here and say this cigar is exceptionally well constructed, with no soft spots, no blemishes that I can find. The cigar smells very slightly sweet and perhaps a little bit "earthy," for lack of a better discriptor. Yes, I'll work on my descriptors. The Smoke I use my punch cutter, no issues with the cap, and toast the foot. The first puff rewards me with a nice, slightly sweet flavor, a little nutty. The draw is excellent, and it produces lots of billowy white smoke. I know, its a Fuente, should I expect anything less? In terms of flavor and complexity, I'm gonna say this is on the milder side of medium. At the 1/3rd point, the flavor gets a little more intense, bumping up the flavor intensity to definitely medium. I would not however, call it full bodied, but definitely medium. The draw and burn is excellent. At the 2/3rd point, the flavor continues to be slightly sweet, and nutty. The flavor continues to be what I consider to be medium bodied some earthy flavors added in to make it interesting. The draw and burn is excellent. And sadly, I'm done. I was quite happy with the experience; a well made cigar with excellent flavor cigar, perfect draw and construction. The Rating
