Initial Thoughts

This box of 10 cigars was my first purchase from the newly launched JR Cigar's luxury division.  According to the marketing hype, this cigar was allegedly made to replicate ... bla, blah, blah, cuban cigar.  As you can see from my cigar construction above, I have no clue what the wrapper, binder or filler is.  Ok.. so, we have no clue whether or not the cigar is in fact an actual cigar, or perhaps its like the lead paint covered viagra pills that are so heavily spammed.

With some trepidatation, ok, actual fear, I waited for my order to come, and 'thar she is', a beautifully printed cardboard box, with 10 cigars in hermetically sealed tubes.   Looking on the positive, hey, I don't have to waste any space in my 1200 ct cheap-humidors.com. humidor that I bought myself for my birthday.  I'm paranoid... I put them in the humidor anyway.  Ok, perhaps I shouldn't be so harsh... the cardboard box packaging... it IS a good looking cardboard box.

In looking at the cigar, in its hermetically sealed tube, I have to say... its a damned good looking maduro cigar.

The Smoke

I used my punch cutter on this one, and had no issues with the cap.  I toast the foot, ignite the cigar and take my first puff.  This is DEFINITELY a full flavored cigar.  The site claims medium to full, and I've got to say, I don't see anything full about it.  In terms of flavor, it is somewhat "earthy" with some spicy flavors thrown in for good measure.  The first portion of the smoke was a little harsh.

At the 1/3 point, the harshness is no longer there.  Burn and draw are excellent.  Flavor continues to be consistent and complex.  LOTS of smoke, and I suspect that if I had started smoking this cigar with company, I'd now be alone.

At the 2/3 point, I'm experiencing a little unevenness with the burn -- nothing requiring any intervention.  Draw is excellent, and the flavor continues to be full and complex.

I've finished the cigar, and with the exception of the uneven burning, this was a great smoke.

The Rating

Flavor: 9/10Excellent flavor, complex full flavor.
 Draw:10/10 Perfect draw.
Construction: 8/10 Excellent construction, some issues with uneven burn, no observable blemishes.
Overall: 8/10Full, complex flavor.  Issues with uneven burning detracted some from the experience.
