Helix Tubular Initial Thoughts I bought this cigar in an effort to refocus my efforts on getting some reviews going again. I've been slacking a bit, compliments of a ridiculous work schedule. Initial thoughts are simple: this cigar is gorgeous, and if tastes as good as it looks, I'm excited. The cigar smells quite pleasant. Physically, there are no noticeable soft spots; the cigar appears to be meticulously constructed. The Smoke I use my punch cutter, toast the foot and take my first puff. Mellow, toasty and somewhat sweet would be my initial thoughts. I take another couple of puffs, and while the cigar is a little mild for my tastes, it has excellent flavor and complexity. The burn is flawless, producing a white ash and a decent amount of billowy white smoke.
At the 1/3 point, flavor has intensified a little. Toasty, nutty, with some slight sweetness. The burn and draw are flawless. At the 2/3 point, flavor continues to be very nice, excellent complexity. The draw is flawless, but am noticing some slight unevenness in the burn. Finishing up the cigar -- the only disappointment was the minor unevenness with the burn. Taste and complexity were excellent. The Rating | Flavor: | 10/10 | Excellent flavor and complexity throughout.
| | Draw: | 10/10 | Basically flawless draw. Lots of billowy white smoke. | | Construction: | 9/10 | Gorgeous cigar, no soft spots or visible blemishes. Noted uneveneness in burn towards the end. | | Overall: | 9/10 | An excellent cigar. A very nice experience. |
I'm a big fan of Helix Natural's too. Great value for when you want something mellow. |
