I picked up this particular cigar as a "freebie" with my last JR order. Often times, I'm a little concerned when things are given for free. Hopefully, I won't be disappointed.
![]() Omar Ortez Original Robusto Initial Thoughts This cigar looks like a "plane Jane" robusto cigar. No band, some veininess in the wrapper; appears to be solidly constructed with no apparant soft spots. According to the JR site, this is a puro, with all tobacco hailing from Nicaragua. It smells sweet and a little earthy. The Smoke I clip the cap, toast the foot and light the cigar for my first puff. Whoah! If I wasn't expecting it, I think my head would have come clean off! Lots of powerful flavor; peppery with a slightly sweet taste to it. The draw seems a little tight, but not too bad. A fair amount of smoke is produced, and plenty of flavor. I don't taste anything remotely medium about this stick; definitely full flavor. At the 2/3 point, I'm actually getting just a touch light headed. This is clearly a full flavored cigar... and I like it. The slight sweetness on the palette continues, with plenty of peppery flavor and some notes of leather. I will say, that while being a full flavored cigar, it is not overwhelmingly so. I smoked this stick down to the nub, and I'm a little light headed. Perhaps its been too long since I've had a full flavored cigar. The only real issue I see with adding this stick into my rotation, is that it comes in boxes of 60. I like the cigar, but not enough to have 80% of my humidor space devoted to it... I'm thinkin' its cooler-a-dor building time, because I definitely enjoyed the smoke. How strong was it? Strong enough that the wife said "whatever cigar you just had REALLY stinks." The Rating
No. 2 : I love a strong cigar so if you do to, buy a box of these. The strongest cost effective cigar in my experience. Never a problem in any area and on my top 10 non Cuban list. No. 1 : I am new to this site. So far, I love it! I picked up a few Omar Ortez Originals from the local tobacconist over the years back in Ohio. Loved them. Just moved to NJ and JR is about 2 miles from my house. I picked up a 5 pack of O.O. Originals last week and have been staring at my humidor all week. As I write this, one is lit beside me. Football.... an Original....and two fingers of Tullamore Dew....God I love this time of year. |
