Manolo Factory Overruns PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Perhaps I'm getting a little too cynical, but when I see the word 'overrun' in reference to a cigar, I think reject!  Who knows, I may be surprised, and I may actually have found a cheap "every day" smoke.

'No Frills' Churchill (Manolo Factory Overrun)

Initial Thoughts

With my last cigar order, it occurred to me that I've been getting just a little bit out of hand in terms of how much a month I've been spending.  Now... if I wanted to be a totally selfish jerk, I'd say "big fuckin' deal... I earned it."  However, thats not who I am.  I've got college to pay for coming up (the Animal Rights Activist daughter graduates from high school in 3 short years!).  So... being the ever thoughtful guy that I am, I decided to purchase a box of these, and give 'em a whirl.  The price is pretty impressive, especially if they are decent cigars.

So... enough babbling about what a great guy I am, and on with the cigar:

This is a "no frills" cigar... no band, packed very tightly in a box of 25.  The cigar appears to be decently constructed, I noticed some blemishes in the wrapper, and I didn't find any soft spots in the sample I'm having today.  Smell test gives a slightly sweet aroma, and not much else.

The Smoke

I clip the cap, and don't have any issues with any breakage.  I still haven't gotten me a damned notch cutter, but oh well.  I toast the foot, light the cigar and take my first puff.  I am greeted with a toasty and slightly sweet taste.  Definitely a mild cigar.

At the 1/3 point, the flavor is consistent... and decidedly monochromatic.  Its toasty, a little sweet, and not much else to write home about.  There is plenty of white smoke that is produced, and the burn is excellent and draw is quite easy.

Approximately 30 minutes later, I'm at the 2/3 point, and as above, consistent flavor, excellent burn, and an easy draw.  Honestly, I'm enjoying the cigar, not so much for the flavor (some I've had border on an orgasmic experience), but for the relaxing and "winding down," that I'm doing.

After a solid hour of this cigar, I'm done.  The cigar won't win any awards, however, for the price, I'm rather pleased.  Its a little mild for my preference, but certainly not a bad choice for an "every day" cigar.

The Rating

Flavor: 6/10 Monochromatic but consistent flavor throughout.
Draw: 8/10Easy draw, very good burn, but got a little uneven at the end.
Construction: 7/10Decent construction, a few minor blemishes noted.
Overall: 7/10A decent cigar, limited flavor complexity, easy draw and good burn.
