La Aurora "Gold" 1903 Preferido Perfecto PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Written by Dan

Ok... so I'm gonna admit it.  This is one friggin' gorgeous cigar.  Yes, it goes against my grain with the whole metallurgic designation.... but damn.  If this cigar isn't a "10", I'll be in shock!

Pefidio Perfecto Gold
Perfidio Perfecto Gold in its 'case'

As was pointed out to me by some rather blunt feedback, I inadvertantly misspelled the name of the cigar.

Initial Thoughts

Ummm... WOW!  This is an absolutely gorgeous cigar.  Physically, it is a perfecto shape, has no obvious physical blemishes, and I don't see feel any soft spots whatsoever.  If this thing smokes anywhere near as good as it looks, I'm thinkin' I may actually have my very first "10" rating.  Sniffing the thing... hmmm... not even sure what to describe it as, other than nice... kind of earthy, sweet, maybe even flowery.

The Smoke

Clipping the end of the cigar resulted in no cracking or issues.  I light it up, and take my initial puff.  WOW.  Absolutely wonderful flavor!  A little sweet on the palette, with really good complexity!  Continuing to puff on it, gives me a little hint of pepperyness at approximately the halfway point, some sweetness, and a truly great smoking experience thus far.  The burn is perfect, and when I say perfect, I mean perfect -- no unevenness whatsoever.  This cigar even smells nice as it burns.  At the 2/3 point, I notice a VERY SLIGHT unevenness to the burn (sigh... there goes my perfect rating).  Flavor continues to be absolutely wonderful -- definitely medium, with really good complexity.  Surprsingly, a few puffs later, and we're back to a truly perfect burn.  The ash is a grey color.  I'm still puffing away, and the flavor is smooth and complex.  I'm DEFINTELY gonna smoke this down to the nub!  I gotta give my wife props for purchasing these for me, because they are absolutely wonderful!  I'm still puffing away on the cigar, and I'm glad there isn't anyone around me to see that I keep moving my thumb and forefinger closer to my lips so I can keep smoking the thing.  I mean REALLY... there is no bitterness whatsoever with this cigar!  Well, drat... I don't really want to get burned, but DAMN!  I'm thinkin' if I had tweezers, I'd actually keep smoking (LOL).

The Rating

Ok... I'll admit it... this cigar is a 10.  I got nothin' bad to say about it.  The very brief unevenness in the burn fixed itself, and I smoked it until it actually burned my thumb a little.

Flavor:
10/10
Medium flavor, excellent complexity.
Draw:
10/10
Perfect draw..
Construction:
10/10
Excellent construction, very minor issue with uneven burn that rectified itself after a few more puffs.
Overall:
10/10
Yeppers, despite my wanting to save my first "10" rating for the Opus X that I'm planning on purchasing next week, this cigar IS a "10".
