Initial Thoughts

Ok, I'm not gonna get on my soapbox for this one (LOL).  Its a Ghurka... I should expect whacky (ok creative) names.  The only thing more dififcult than trying to remember the full name, is to in fact find actual information about this cigar.  Well, I've done my best.  If there needs to be a correction regarding filler, binder, etc., please lemme know.

So... My initial thoughts with this cigar, is holy crap... this things a damned work of art!  I know, I know, there's actual cigars out there named for artists... but seriously, I can't find anything bad to say about the looks or construction of this cigar.  The thing is firmly constructed, no soft spots, not a blemish that I can find.

I give it the ole sniff test, and it smells sweet, almost like perfume.  The wife had some choice words to say about it, but we'll leave those for another time.

The Smoke

I clip the cigar, and as with the last Ghurka I reviewed, not an issue with the cap breaking or anything like that.  I toast the foot, and light it up.  I'm met immediately with a slightly sweet, and very complex flavor.  I'm not even quite sure how to describe it... maybe espresso with some sort of flowery notes.  I don't know... I don't drink coffee, and I don't eat flowers... what I DO know, is this is one damned tasty cigar.  The flavor is definitely medium; not harsh at all, and not so overpowering in terms of the complexity of its taste.

At the 1/2 point, I'm noticing a little unevenness with the burn, but certainly nothing to write home about.  Flavor has built a little in intensity, and I notice a little bit more complexity.  Again, not overpowering, but very nice.  Draw is absolutely flawless.

At 2/3 of the way done with the stick, the burn has not evened out.  Flavor continues to remain great -- excellent complexity, I notice a little spiciness, but not much.  Draw continues to be virtually flawless.  I also note that the cigar is putting out a fair amount of heat (ever notice that some cigars burn "hotter" than others?).  I slow down a little on my puffing, because I really want to enjoy this one all the way down to the nub.

This has been an absolutely smooth smoking experience, and I'm babying the last of the cigar, trying to get one or two last puffs out of it.

The Rating

Flavor:
10/10
Medium flavor, excellent complexity.
Draw:
10/10
Nice draw, producing a decent amount of smoke.
Construction:
9/10
Excellent construction, minor issue with uneven burn.
Overall:
9/10
Had I not encountered the issue with the burn, I probably would have rated this a 10.  I was NOT disappointed with this stick.

I agree with this review, and also want to mention that I noticed a definite leathery flavor, which is the flavor I enjoy the most in a cigar.

Hi GBender,
I didn't notice the harshness that you spoke of, but will pay closer attention when I smoke the remaining one that I have in my humidor. Thanks for the feedback!

To me, the Napalese Warior's wrapper has a little harshness to it. the regular Regent is a much better cigar
