Dan puffs on a CAO, hoping for some stress relief.
![]() CAO Criollo Pato Initial Thoughts First off, I’ve had a rough day, so I made myself a drink with 50% Jack Daniels and 50% diet-coke, so if this review is a little off, my apologies. I haven’t started drinking just yet, so I should be semi-coherent through most of this review. Smelling this cigar… mmmmm…. smells very nice. Construction is absolutely impeccable, complete with a curly “tail” on the cap. In short, if this cigar smokes as good as it looks, I’m gonna be in hog friggin’ heaven. The Smoke I clipped the cap, and noticed a small crack in the cap when I did so. It could have just been my cutter, so I’ll overlook it. Firing it up and taking my first puff… DAMN… I imagine this is the functional equivalent of having a nymphomaniac trophy wife with a really tight, perfect body. Lots of flavor from this stick. I’m alternating puffing on the stogie and having a sip of my adult bevarage. The cigar started off medium, and grew a little bit in strength and complexity as I smoked it. The draw was absolutely effortless. Burn is perfect. I’m to the 2/3 mark, and I’m not even close to finished with my adult beverage, as I’ve decided to take more puffs on the smoke than drinks from my drink. At the 2/3 point, I’m still impressed with this smoke. Excellent flavor, and I can sit it down for a little bit and actually enjoy the smoke its putting out. Not a note of harshness at all, just very good flavor. The smoke doesn’t produce a great deal of smoke, but damn, it sure tastes good. This cigar delivers absolutely wonderful taste, and definitely provides the desired cigar smoking experience. My thoughts of the various aspects of today that made it bordering on a total cluster-fuck have subsided, and I’m bordering on euphoric from the stogie smoking experience. No, I’m not waxing poetic… I’m just saying, I am THOROUGHLY enjoying this smoke. I am somewhat disappointed to see that I’ve got less than ¾ of an inch left. I suspect I may actually burn my fingers a little trying to selfishly get the last couple of puffs out of this smoke. I don’t recall having smoked a cigar with more complexity in the flavor, but I’m not quite ready to pop the cherry on a perfect 10 rating as of yet. As I’m just about finished with it, I notice the flavor seems to increase just a bit more. Still definitely what I would call medium, no harshness or bitterness whatsoever. I did notice a very slight aspect of unevenness to the burn, but definitely nothing to complain about. All right, I’ll admit it, this smoke probably DOES deserve a 10, but I’m still gonna just give it a solid 9. I have my heart set on an Opus X for the latter part of January to celebrate the end of the alimony payments to the ex-wife AND, hopefully, my first 10 rating on a cigar. I smoked this stick until my fingers couldn’t physically hang on to it any more. A definite thanks is in order to my wife, who was kind enough to get me a Thompson’s sampler with this particular smoke in it for Christmas this past year.
The Rating
No. 2 : These Crillojo's are on the same page as the Brazilias. I should smoke these back to back for a difinitive conclusion. This is one of CAO's finest blends and a box of these are in order. No. 1 : Could not believe the abundant flavor, old world, depth. Excellent smoke! |
