Initial Thoughts

An actual handmade cigar for 65 cents a stick?? Come on, you gotta be kidding me.  I mean this thing has GOT to taste like a dog turd, right?  Having never tasted a dog turd, I couldn’t tell you, but I have smelled one before.  This stogie doesn’t smell like dog crap, so that’s certainly a positive sign.

The Smoke

In looking at the cigar, it appears to be decently constructed.  I noticed some veins in some of the others in the sampling, but nothing to write home about.  Clipping the cap was accomplished cleanly, with no breakage or cracking.  I lit the stogie, and took a couple of puffs.  The flavor was definitely medium; there didn’t seem to be a great deal of complexity, but the taste was definitely acceptable.  Draw on the cigar was good; the cigar smoked easily, and produced a good white ash.  Taste was consistent throughout, mild with decent flavor.  I puffed on this cigar when I was quite frustrated at work, and needed to think; it definitely served my desired purpose – it gave me a break from my frustration, and gave me the pleasure that I associate with cigar smoking.

My thoughts on this cigar are this: This cigar is like the pair of jeans you buy at an outlet store.  They’re comfy, they look decent; they may not last long, there may be some blemishes, but they’re perfect for loafing around the house or kicking back on the weekend.  For the price, you can’t beat ‘em… you paid a third or less than what you’d have paid for them at that department store that you don’t particularly like anyway.  I view this cigar in much the same way:  Decent flavor, clearly not complex; decent construction, good draw.  In short, this is a perfect cigar for ‘everyday,’ or in my case, when I need to step back and take some time to collect my thoughts and relieve some stress (ok, I’ll be honest, what I really wanted for stress relief wasn’t likely to happen any time soon, since I’m sure the wife wouldn’t just drive down to work to oblige me, but hey… a guy can dream, can’t he?).  If I don’t finish the entire stick, I’m not particularly concerned, since it actually costs about the same as a soda from a vending machine.  I would have to say the stick actually exceeded my expectations.  By the same token, my expectations weren’t particularly high.

The Rating

Flavor:
3/10Decent taste, not particularly complex
Draw:
10/10
Good draw
Construction:
6/10
Good construction
Overall:
4/10
Decent taste, good construction, good draw (duh)
No. 1 :
If the flavor is "not bad," why do you give it a 3? 3 is a BAD flavor, "like a dog turd." Average taste is a 5-7. Anything below 5 is offensive.

You should revise this, as your rating makes it sound much worse than it is. There are a lot of much more expensive smokes that don't taste as good as this one.
